Seven Rila lakes from Sofia. This tour will take you on an incredible journey to the Seven Rila Lakes in the National Park Rila.
Experience one of Bulgaria’s most striking mountain landscapes. Leisurely pace and hike all the way up to the highest of the seven lakes in the largest national park in Bulgaria. The park is located about (100 km – 62 ml) south of Sofia.
In addition, the Park contains rare and endangered wildlife species and communities. Self-regulating ecosystems of biological diversity, as well as historic sites of global cultural and scientific significance. Some of the largest rivers in the Balkan Peninsula originate here.
In fact the name Rila is derived from the Thracian word roula – which means a lots of water.

∗ The journey takes about hour and a half to Panichishte resort. From there we will take the chairlift which will lead us to the Rila Lakes mountain hut at the (2081 m – 6827 ft). Hiking trek to the “Lake Peak” (2535 m – 8316 ft) from where a panoramic view of all seven lakes is revealed. The trek takes about 2 hours.
∗ A pleasant picnic amidst the captivating tranquility in the area of the Seven Rila Lakes.
∗ Enjoyable afternoon at the Seven Rila Lakes Cirque.
∗ Trek back to ‘Rila Lakes’ hut and the chairlift.

ATTENTION:
∗ Mandatory requirement for tourists – Before the start of each mountain hike, clients receive instruction from a licensed mountain guide and undertake to comply with the instructions given to them.

∗ Please wear comfortable hiking boots, warm clothes, dry food, water, raincoate.
∗ Windproof and waterproof jacket.
∗ Extra garment (fleece).
∗ Water bottle at least 1 liter.
∗ Hat/towel, sunscreen and sunglasses, raincoat.
∗ Insole (optional).
∗ In bad weather conditions the program can be shortened or replaced.

Day Tour
∗ 08:30: Tour starts from the parking behind Alexander Nevski Cathedral or you will be picked up from the place, if arranged with member of our booking team in advance. Departure for approximately 2:30-hours travel through beautiful countryside to the Panichishte.
∗ 09:30 – 10:00: Boarding the chairlift to the Seven Rila Lakes.
∗ 10:00 – 12:30: Hiking trek to the seven Rila lakes, which takes about 2 hour.
The Seven Rila Lakes are a group of glacial lakes, situated in the northwestern Rila Mountain in Bulgaria. They are the most visited group of lakes in Bulgaria. The lakes are situated between 2081 m – 6827 ft) and (2535 m – 8316 ft) above sea level. Each lake carries a name associated with its most characteristic feature.
-The highest one is called ‘Salzata’ (the Tear) due to its clear waters.
-The next one in height carries the name ‘Okoto’ (the Eye) after its almost perfectly oval form.
-Babreka (the Kidney) is the lake with the steepest shores of the entire group.
-Bliznaka (the Twin) is the largest one by area.
-Trilistnika (the Trefoil) has an irregular shape and low shores.
-The shallowest lake is ‘Ribnoto Ezero’ (the Fish Lake)
-The lowest one is ‘Dolnoto Ezero’ (the Lower Lake), where the waters that flow out of the other lakes are gathered to form the Dzherman River.

∗ 13:30 – 14:30: Enjoyable afternoon at the Seven Rila Lakes Cirque.
∗ 16:00 – 16:30: Trek back to ‘Rila Lakes’ hut (2081 m – 6827 ft) and the chairlift.
∗ 17:00: Departure back to Sofia.
∗ 19:30: Expected time of arrival in Sofia at the Metro station Inter Expo Center – Tsarigradsko shose or at your preferable location if requested in advance at the time of booking.
