NUREMBERG

Some call it a ‘little Venice’, due to the Pegnitz river and the canals that cross it. Between romantic corners, suggestive bridges, lampposts and wooden benches, Nuremberg is an ideal destination for both couples and families, rich in art and history. A cosmopolitan city, between tradition and the new that advances and a peculiar symbol of German culture. To visit in an unforgettable weekend.

Nuremberg is a city in Franconia, a German region that is part of Bavaria. It is the first thing to know and to keep in mind when visiting it because citizens are very keen to specify that it is not in Bavaria. We see it appear for the first time in period documents around 1050, while in 1219 the Emperor Frederick II declared it the ‘Free City’ of the German Empire. One of its most famous citizens is Albrecht Dürer, a painter who resided there from 1509 until his death in 1528. It was around those years, between 1400 and 1600, that the city experienced its moment of greatest splendor.

The main street is the Königstraße which starts from the Frauentorturm and runs through the center. The main square is the Hauptmarkt, since the Middle Ages it has been the nerve center of the community. The Christkindlesmarkt, one of the most famous Christmas markets in Germany, takes place here every December. In the center of the square you cannot miss the Schöner Brunnen, a fountain in the shape of a pinnacle. Dating back to around 1300, it boasts a height of 19 meters and houses numerous pieces of goldsmith’s art representing both pagan heroes and Christian divinities. According to a legend, whoever caresses her gets married within a year. The Burg, home of the Emperor
The monument that fully represents the majesty of Nuremberg is the Burg, the large fortress built as a seat for the Emperor in 1039 and then converted into a military citadel in about 1400. Located on a hill, it enjoys a truly breathtaking view.

Do not forget to visit the interior of the Kaiserburg, where the imperial apartments of the time are still well preserved. Also visit the former hospital of the Holy Spirit (Heilig Geist Spital), built between 1331 and 1339 on the banks of the river that runs through Nuremberg.

MUNICH

Come and have a toast in Bavaria!

Here we are in Munich, a city that, together with Berlin and Hamburg, earns the podium of the most popular German tourists). Munich is trendy, you want Oktoberfest beer, the liveliness of Marienplatz or Viktualienmarkt shopping.

But the capital of Bavaria is not just this, but a concentrate of novelties that often rhyme with art.

Find another city that has invested as much in museums in recent years as Munich, not to mention that architects of the caliber of Foster + Partners and Herzog & De Meuron have signed off on unique projects such as the Lenbachhaus and Kunsthalle München.

The homeland of Ludwig I and II is also the home of the Allianz Arena and BMW, which has just celebrated its centenaryLively and cozy, Marienplatz is the most beautiful and oldest square in the city, the heart of Munich with the Church of Our Lady, the New Town Hall with the Glockenspiel, the largest carillon in Germany, and the Old Town Hall.

This is the city lounge where you can not help but sip a beer and in the meantime enjoy the splendid German atmosphere. In December the Christkindlmarkt takes place, the Market of the Infant Jesus, truly spectacular among lights, decorations, candles and local gastronomy for sale.
