Reach the Seven Rila Lakes, a group of glacial lakes situated in the northwestern Rila Mountain. Each lake carries a name associated with its most characteristic feature.

The highest one is called ‘Salzata’ (the Tear) due to its clear waters. The next one in height carries the name ‘Okoto’ (the Eye) after its almost perfectly oval form. Babreka (the Kidney) is the lake with the steepest shores of the entire group. Bliznaka (the Twin) is the largest one by area. Trilistnika (the Trefoil) has an irregular shape and low shores. The shallowest lake is ‘Ribnoto Ezero’ (the Fish Lake). The lowest one is ‘Dolnoto Ezero’ (the Lower Lake), where the waters that flow out of the other lakes are gathered to form the Dzherman River.

Begin your adventure with a visit to the Devil’s Throat Cave, located in the western part of the Rhodope Mountains. This cave is connected to many mystical legends and is home to the largest waterfall inside a cave on the Balkan Peninsula. According to legend, Orpheus, the legendary Thracian singer, attempted to retrieve his beloved Euridice from Hades in the Underworld here.

Next, head to Yagodinska Cave, which is 10,500 meters long and has three levels. Only one of them, about 1,100 meters long in the lowest level, was electrified in 1971–1982 and opened for tourists. The entrance and the exit for that level are artificial tunnels with a length of 150 and 80 meters respectively. The altitude of the entrance and the exit is 930 meters and 937 meters respectively. The temperature in the cave is constant all year round at 6ºС; the humidity is 85%–91%.

Optionally, take a jeep trek to the Eagle’s Eye viewpoint, a platform for observation and tourist attraction in the Western Rhodope. The platform is built on the edge of a rock, located at 1563 meters above sea level.

City of Plovdiv(Philippopolis), Vacha dam and Bachkovo monastery. Get to know Plovdiv. One of the  oldest cities in an Europe, the beginning of it’s history dates back to 6,000 years B.C.

In ancient times Thracians inhabited the Three Hills and built a fortified settlement – the largest city in Thrace. As a matter of fact in the 4th century BC Plovdiv was conquered by Phillip of Macedon.

Asen’s Fortress, a medieval fortress in the Rhodope Mountains controlled by the Thracians, Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders, Ottomans and Bulgarians.

Bachkovo  Monastery “Assumption of the Virgin” is located in the southern part of the village Bachkovo.
You will  explorer famous Bulgarian icon painter Zahariy Zograf (1810-1853). Executed the images in the church’s interior from 1838-1840. In 1841 he completed the frescoes on the exterior of The Holy Archangels Church.

Vacha dam. It is an amazingly beautiful dam located in the middle of the Rhodopes along the river Vacha. The highest dam wall in Bulgaria was built on “Vacha” – with a height of 144.5 meters. A wide variety of fish thrives in the reservoir – carp, perch, carp, grass carp, bream, whitefish, baboon, mullet, bream, catfish, walleye, sunfish, redfin and pike. Thanks to this variety, it is a very popular fishing spot.

Veliko Tarnovo, Arbanasi and Etara

The upsurge of Veliko Tarnovo is related to the period of the Second Bulgarian Empire (1185 – 1393). In 1185, the town was declared a capital of the restored Bulgarian State by the brothers Asen and Petar, who declared the end of the Byzantine dominion, which continued for 167 years. 

 Architectural and Ethnographic Complex Etar is an open air museum, established in 1964. Its purpose is to present the architecture and the style of life in Gabrovo and the region during the second half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.

Rila Monastery is one of the symbols of Bulgaria and is also a popular tourist destination. The monastery lies in the valleys of Rila Mountain.

Between Rilska and Drushlyavitsa Rivers, at 1147 m – 3763 ft above sea level. As a matter of fact throughout the centuries Rila Monastery has always been the spiritual, educational and cultural centre of Bulgaria.
The monastery is included in the List of World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.

The National History Museum in Sofia
The museum is one of the largest and richest history museums on the Balkan Peninsula. Representing the history of the present Bulgarian lands, from the period 8,000 years ago to the present day. The first exhibition was in 1984 in honor of the 1300th anniversary of Bulgaria as a state. Since 2000 year, the museum has been located in the former building No 1 of the government residence in the Boyana residential section, Sofia.
